Kerry was born in Monahans, Texas, in May 1948. Graduating from Odessa High School in 1966 he then went on to Hardin Simmons University where he graduated with a BA degree in 1971. Kerry went on to get his Master of Divinity degree from Golden Gate Baptist Theological Seminary in 1975. He has pastored churches in Texas, California, and Oregon.

Over much of the last 20 years, Kerry has made his living as a stockbroker. Kerry now functions as a Financial Advisor as well as spiritual advisor to his many clients.
